You have received the CBD oil you ordered at home, but do not know how to use it. What is the dosage and how do you use CBD oil, you will ask yourself.
There are many brands and CBD oil is offered in all kinds of percentages. Percentages of 2.5%, 2, 78%, 5%, 10% and even a bit higher are offered and you will not see the forest for the trees. At the end of this story it will be clear that you should not pay attention to the percentages, but how many milligrams (mg) 1 drop or 1 capsule contains. What is important is how many milligrams (mg) of CBD oil you are ingesting per dosage and per day.
That’s why I made a table at the end of this story, in which you can check how many milligrams you get per drop or capsule of a certain brand.
In principle it is difficult to indicate how many drops or capsules or how many milligrams (mg) you should use. This can vary a lot from person to person. But there are some general indications that can be given. Although there has been a lot of research with CBD oil, there has not been good research on proper dosages. But if you observe yourself carefully, you can start to determine your own individual dose.
First of all, what is CBD oil?
CBD is the abbreviation for Cannabidiol: one of the 80 known cannabinoids found in the hemp plant. This substance is found in the hemp plant and is a non-psychoactive substance. This means that CBD oil will not get you stoned or high. This is in contrast to the substance THC (tetrahydrocannabinol), which is psychoactive and occurs in the CBD plant. CBD oil is made from hemp plants that do not contain THC, while medicinal hemp oil is made from hemp plants that do contain THC. THC is banned in many countries and medicinal hemp oil (which therefore does contain THC) is only available on prescription in the Netherlands. CBD oil is increasingly used because of its positive health effects. Besides CBD, CBDa. CBC and CBG are also some constituents of the hemp plant, each with their own properties.
CBD oil is thus made from the hemp plant, which is used in the industry to make fiber and hemp seed oil from it. Thus, this hemp plant does not contain the prohibited substance THC. CBD oil is therefore not addictive, it does not make you high or stoned and it has no side effects. The mentioned active substances of CBD oil can be found in the hemp plant in small resin balls on the leaves and flowers of the plant. Through certain extraction methods, the active ingredients are extracted and what remains is a kind of paste, which is mixed with olive, hempseed or walnut oil making it liquid.
So there are different strengths of CBD oil: 2.5%, 5%, 10%. The amount of drops or capsules you need to take depends on this strength. Usually one starts with a lower strength. But in addition, the dosage will also depend on your personal reaction to the CBD oil. Read more information on CBD oil from this Readers Digest article.
Often there is a recommended dosage on the packaging. Take this recommended dosage as a starting point. You can also start with 1 drop or 1 capsule per day. Adjust the dosage according to your own experience. Start with 1 drop or 1 capsule per day and add 1 drop or capsule daily. Do not take the drops at one time of the day, but divide it over 2 – 4 times a day e.g. morning, afternoon, end of the day and possibly before bedtime. Four intakes per day is preferred. Stick to the maximum dosage mentioned on the packaging. If you do not notice an improvement at the maximum dosage, you can switch to a higher strength.
Although you should stick to the maximum dosage that is on the package, overdosing is almost impossible. Do not use CBD oil during pregnancy, breastfeeding and during chemotherapy.
When used in drop form, the bottle contains a pipette. This allows you to determine the dose per drop. The drops should be taken under the tongue. Before using the CBD oil shake well. Use a teaspoon if necessary. Keep the CBD oil about 30-60 counts under the tongue in your mouth. If you find the taste very bad, you may also take the drops with some food, e.g. a piece of bread. After taking CBD oil you often notice the effect after 15 minutes and this can last for several hours. As an example you will notice a relaxing effect or pain relieving effect.
Often one should take the CBD oil for a longer time (6-8 weeks) to be able to properly assess whether there is an improvement of the symptoms.
It is best to store the CBD oil in a dark, cool place. This does not have to be the refrigerator, although that is fine too. Always take it at room temperature only.
